Background

Spencer Svonavec is a fourth-generation miner and a Pennsylvania native. He trained alongside mechanics, welders, equipment operators, and farmers, and graduated from PA Cyber School in 2022 after arranging early morning study blocks so he could apprentice during the day. That approach — building real skills through work, not around it — has defined how he has run his companies since.

Today Rockwood Stone is Pennsylvania’s highest-certified aggregate producer in Somerset County, and Simkol Corp extends his operations across the region. Spencer believes responsible extraction and community investment are not competing priorities. At Rockwood, they happen at the same time.
